For travel by train, both Amtrak and SEPTA make frequent daily stops at the Downtown Wilmington train station (WIL). Zachery Lockwood, Assistant to the General DirectorZachery Tyler Lockwood joined the OperaDelaware staff in April 2023 after assistant stage managing for the company’s productions of Così fan tutte (2022) and La traviata (2023). Outside of OD, Lockwood (tenor) is an active performer and music educator with a focus on building community through the arts and advocating for innovative/underutilized vocal works. Lockwood has been praised for his ‘robust sound’ that possesses a ‘youthful exuberance.’ He currently sits as an Adjunct Professor of Applied Voice at Harford Community College. Lockwood brings to OperaDelaware an organized and community-driven approach towards its mission.

The live @ the baby grand series complements Copeland Hall with a broad diversity of emerging comedians, bands and soloists, as well as established artists. THE PLAYHOUSE

The Delaware Symphony, Opera Delaware, and First State Ballet Theatre are all in residence at The Grand, presenting full schedules in each of their disciplines. Between The Grand, its resident performing companies, and rentals, the building hosts more than 300 events a year bringing more than 120,000 people into downtown Wilmington and through its doors. Once the location of the historic Aldine Theater, built in 1921, The Grand acquired the lot in 1992 to build the Edith and Alexander F. Giacco Building in 2000. Occupying the first floor is the intimate 305-seat baby grand theater.

Broadway in Wilmington is presented by Bank of America. This program is supported, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. This stirring and inspiring musical takes you into the heart of the remarkable true story of the small town in Newfoundland that opened their homes to 7,000 stranded travelers on 9/11. During that fateful week, cultures clashed and nerves ran high—but uneasiness turned into trust, music soared into the night, and gratitude grew into enduring friendships.

The Grand Opera House, also known as The Grand or Masonic Hall and Grand Theater, is a 1,208-seat theater for the performing arts in Wilmington, Delaware, United States. The four-story building was built in 1871 by the Delaware Grand Lodge of Masons to serve as a Masonic Temple and auditorium. The construction cost was $100,000.[2] It was designed in Second Empire style by Baltimore architect Thomas Dixon and incorporates symbolism from Freemasonry into the cast-iron facade.

Patrons are also welcome to bring their own refreshments to outdoor performances at the OperaDelaware Studios. The School of First State Ballet Theatre presents its annual student showcase in the baby grand theater. Brendan Cooke, General DirectorBrendan Cooke was appointed General Director of OperaDelaware in June 2012. Cooke joined OD from the Baltimore Concert Opera, a company he founded in 2008 in response to the collapse of the Baltimore Opera Company. Cooke and his board of directors launched this start-up opera company with $700 in personal funds. Under his leadership, BCO experienced exponential growth. After founding BCO, Cooke continued his career in Arts Administration as a member of the marketing team for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, where he was Group Sales Manager for the organization. In addition to his entrepreneurial skills, Cooke brings to OperaDelaware extensive experience in front and back-office operations, fundraising, facilitation of corporate and community partnerships, education, sales, and marketing.

After 100 years, it is the oldest theater continually on that circuit. In addition to a full schedule of Broadway productions, The Playhouse, two blocks north of The Grand on Market Street, is also host to a number of other touring artists each season. OperaDelaware is a professional non-profit opera company with a reputation for excellence in both opera and arts education. OperaDelaware opens the door to bold, vibrant and creative operatic programming that enriches the community, transforms audiences, and encourages dialogue.
